Mayjan Engineering has been a maintenance service provider to the Visy Tumut mill for the last 10 years. Their service was mainly during plant shutdowns as well as the yearly major shutdown.
During these shutdowns, the services provided included:
- Changing roll and dryer cylinder bearings
- Fitting and aligning doctor holders
- Routine maintenance tasks on a paper machine
During the 2024 MSD at Tumut, Mayjan formed a crucial part of the Kappa 95 project, installing newly manufactured equipment on both VP9 and VP10 press sections. Mayjan was responsible for mechanical installation as well as some major rectification work required for the project’s success.
Mayjan Engineering has also been involved in various projects at the Smithfield operations, the latest being the reject baler project. Mayjan Engineering is also involved in planned shutdowns on both VP3 and VP6 at Smithfield.

I have known the founder of Mayjan Engineering, Alan Ashworth since 1989, when I hired him on contract to work on a complete rebuild and upgrade to the Lysaght Bondek Roll forming Line at Chullora. At that stage he was just starting his business.
Over the years I have continued to use Mayjan Engineering whenever we need to install or rebuild machinery.
Since 1995 I have worked at Dematic and have continued to contract Mayjan to do all of installation and refurbishment work on our production machinery. Mayjan have been involved with all the rebuilds, installations and day to day set ups of our roll forming, and welding production machinery to date.
Working as the Principle Manufacturing Engineer at Dematic I am often involved in the decision of which company to use for specific projects, and would not use any other company to perform maintenance, rebuilds or new installation work.
When required Mayjan have also been contracted to install conveyors for our systems projects.
In 1998 Mayjan Engineering was contracted to install an upgrade to the Qantas Freight Terminal at Mascot, the upgrade involved new transfer machines and conveyors to handle Land Side and Air Side transfers of air cargo containers.
All work was completed to a very high standard, within time and budget.
These days we continue to use Mayjan Engineering whenever we require installation or refurbishment work, although Alan Ashworth has now retired, his son Craig now runs the company and really nothing has changed.
Mayjan have in fact gained a reputation within Dematic whereby they are the go-to company when we require additional labour or trades expertise.
Our conveyor systems and engineering groups use them regularly for installation of conveyors and material handling equipment.
I have always found that the tradespeople that Mayjan employ are of a very high standard.
During the 30 odd years I have dealt with Mayjan I have always found them to be reliable and of the highest integrity.
